The Town of Amherst was established in 1818 and celebrated its 200th Anniversary in 2018. The town is in the northern part of Erie County and borders a section of the Erie Canal. It is the most populated town in western New York, and an inner ring suburb of Buffalo. The Town of Amherst encompasses the village of Williamsville as well as the hamlets of Eggertsville, Getzville, Snyder, Swormville, and East Amherst. With 129,577 people, Amherst is the 14th most populated city in the state of New York. In 2022, the median household income of Amherst residents was $87,280.
